Honestly I want to keep the played history. General Discussions. We've known for a while that Plexa company best known for helping people organize their own media collection, is getting into streaming.
In September, it announced that it had teamed up with Warner Bros. That has now come to pass, as from today, thousands of "free movies, TV shows, extreme sports films, music documentaries, Bollywood musicals" have been unlocked inside the Plex app.
The ad-supported video-on-demand service is available in more than countries to anyone with a free Plex account. Much like the Tidal and Web Shows items, the new streaming option can also be removed if it isn't to your liking.
Plex's new offering doesn't come with a price, but it does come with ads. Even if you're a Plex Pass subscriber, which unlocks numerous features for streaming and managing a personal collection, these new movies and TV shows will still be punctuated by ads. Plex says it will serve "only about one-third the amount of ads you'd expect on cable television" and that while some movies and TV shows will be geo-restricted, the "vast majority" of content will be available worldwide.

From around the web. Page 1 Page 1 ear icon eye icon Fill 23 text file vr.I just linked my Plex account with Infuse. For example, I have Plex Home and have separate Plex accounts for people in my family on my Plex server. Can this be done or is it exclusive to the Plex app? This is not available yet, but multi-user support is something we plan to have available in a future update.
I've only just come across Infuse recently and I am very interested in this feature of having multi-user support. Do you have any sort of time frame? I'd really like to use Infuse as the main client on my Apple TV. Hi there, just wanted to mention that as soon as this is possible Im more than happy to buy Infuse for all my devices.
But don't stress it, just make it right. Hi, just wondering if there was any update on this? Plex user switching is the only feature I miss since switching from Plex app! Right now Multi-user profiles is in the Planned area but keep checking for updates. James keeps this thread updated often. Does it means it has been implemented?
Look in the pinned topic at the top of the Suggestions sub-forum to see what is currently being worked on and what is planned. That is frequently updates by FireCore with updated information. Support for multi-user on tvOS is on the roadmap in the 6. Yes but it is no more in this list contrary to what was stated so I was wondering if I missed something or like remotevisitor said it was included in the multiuser for tvOS.
Thanks anyway for the reply. Log in.It is important to note that some basic Multi-user features and Now Playing features will be available to anyone who uses the free version of Plexbut the really good stuff will be limited to Plex Pass holders. Plex promises switching between users will be extremely quick, and that PINs will only be required where specified.
Finally, Plex promises access to any of the apps that come with a Plex Pass for everyone in the home. This should come in useful for those in a single home that operates separate Roku accounts, or those who opt to use several different kinds of media streaming hardware, such as the Google Nexus Player, which requires users to have a Plex Pass if they want access to Plex at all. Just chalk this up as one more reason to choose Plex as a media server, and perhaps the most compelling reason to throw a chunk of change down for a paid subscription.

While we can presume, if you found this article, that you have a server up and running, some readers may need to backtrack and read our guide to setting up Plex first. Second, you need to ensure your Plex Media Server is accessible outside your home network. Finally, each friend you share your media center with needs a free Plex account. They can sign up for their free account here.
Once you check the prerequisites off—server set up, accessible from outside your home network, and your friend has a Plex account—the rest is very straight forward. To get started log into your Plex account and look for the profile icon in the upper right corner. Click on that now. In the invitation box that pops up, enter the email address your friend used to register for Plex. In the next screen, the invitation wizard will show your available Plex Media Servers.
For each server you can select whether you wish to share all your libraries or some of them. By default, this share is turned off and we recommend you leave it as such; if both you and your friend subscribe to the same channel like, say, the BBC world news channel, then your settings for the channel will overwrite theirs. All other restriction settings like restricting content based on ratingsis limited to users with Plex Premium accounts.
They need to open that email and click on the invitation link to confirm your invitation. When someone shares a library with you, you receive both an email notification as well as a notification within your Plex dashboard. To accept the request, you need to first click on the profile icon in the upper right corner, just like we did when we sent the invitation from our account.
What about when someone shares a Plex Media Server with you, however, and you already have media of your own? You simply switch between the server you wish to access with a toggle. While logged into your Plex Media Server control panel or using any Plex Media Server app like Plex for iOSyou just click on the server selection menu, seen below and located in the upper left corner of the web control panel, and pick from the other available servers. Getting Started with Plex-Part 2: Users and Devices
That sounds pretty great, huh? Not only do you get on-demand streaming to all your devices but you get absolutely beautiful metadata and art to go along with it. That said, however, the most important thing is to go into the experience with a clear picture of what you need and how all the pieces of your Plex setup work together. The more users you expect to be watching at once, the better hardware you want.
Plex media server still works on older hardware but it will automatically disable transcoding if the hardware is insufficient, and playback will suffer and stutter on really old or under-powered hardware.
You can read over their hardware recommendations here. Worst case scenario, you find that file playback is unsatisfactory. Best case scenario, you find that the old hardware works fine and you avoid purchasing any new gear.
You can check out the available platforms for the server software here. The server just one half of the Plex system. And for that, you need the Plex client to access the server. The Plex media server software has always been free. Most of the client apps have always been free. Some of the client apps have a nominal one time activation fee a few dollars e. Plex has two ways of dealing with the paid apps. If you only need one app, you may wish to just activate that single app.
The other option is to buy a Plex Pass, which is like a subscription service that gives you both access to all paid apps, plus benefits like syncing to your mobile devices for offline access and cloud-based file storage. You can read more about which apps are paid, which are free, and the differences between a free Plex membership and a premium one here. To check platform availability and download a client app for your platform, check out the Plex downloads page here.
Plex works best if all your media content is well organized and in the same place. Further, you want to organize your media into a clean folder structure that keeps major media types separated and easy for both you and Plex to parse through. In the above directory structure, you see that the major media categories are separated into distinct sub-folders like Movies and TV Shows and that each media type has a pretty straight forward naming convention.
Movies go in folders named after the movie; best practice is to include the year in parentheses to cut down on confusion. Photos are even easier—Plex just reads the album name off the folder and loads up the images inside. ISO files or other less common formats. If you need additional help cleaning up your media check out the Plex guide to media preparation here.
You can safely run XBMC and Plex completely in parallel with no risk to your metadata, as neither application uses the same metadata files. After installing Plex and signing up, you have an account and user created by default. There is a difference between your Plex account and your Plex user. Your Plex account is how servers are registered to you and is what you sign in to Plex. Plex also supports local users with Plex Pass subscription in addition to Plex.
A local user is created with no restrictions on settings or Libraries on each Plex server you create that is based on your Plex Account Username. This is the only user on servers after installation. You can, however, create other local accounts. These other accounts can simply be unrestricted users that have full access to all content or they can be accounts with only some Libraries available.
If you have multiple users for your Plex server, setting up separate accounts can be useful for Parental controls, separate tracking of what has been watched already, and to ensure Server settings cannot be changed by anyone other than the server owner.
You can have up to 15 local users in addition to the Plex server admin. To view and create local users on your Plex server, click on the user icon in the top right and then click on users. From here you can see any users that have been created on your server and manage them. There is also an option to view your Plex Friends which will be covered later in this guide.
Here you can see I have 3 users on my Plex. The one with the small golden crown is my account and is to show the server owner. Once added, you can set a pin on the account for added security.
Click on the lock from the User dashboard to do this. Type in four numbers, then click Save. The lock will then change to closed and green to show there is a pin on the account. To remove or edit a local user, simply click the appropriate button next to their name on the Users dashboard. The edit user button is the one that looks like a small pencil. The remove button is the red X. Removing a User will require confirmation, but then instantly deletes the user and removes their history from the server.
Another option Plex has is to enable a Guest Account. The guest account is essentially a managed user that cannot have a pin to lock their account. Once created you can click the edit button on the guest account to set restrictions on Libraries and features, the same as any other Managed user. Plex has many users and is growing all the time. It may happen that you want to share your Plex Libraries with your friends or family that have their own Plex servers. If it is a friend or family member that you trust or that trusts youyou can also share your Plex Home with them or they with you which can enable even greater integration.
From here you can see all your Plex friends that you are currently sharing with and any pending invites from those that have not yet accepted and when the invite was sent. Enter their Plex Username or their email address. Finally, click Invite and an email will be sent to the address entered or to their registered email address if you entered their username.
If they are not current Plex users, they can register for an account when they accept the invite. Plex is available on many different devices. As such, you will very likely access Plex from more than one location and device as you add media to your server. I also have two different Plex Servers, both running Linux and running different versions of Plex.
