Ive already done the vats bypass Not sure why the light is still on if the VATs after the bypassed. The "F" body uses "Pass-Key 2".
The resistor pellet in the key is one of 15 different values. The key switch has two contacts and small wires that connect to the harness at the bottom of the column. Without using a DMM and your key in the ignition to test the wires from the switch for some consistent resistance value, is the first place to start. Don't waste your money just yet.
Start with best practices as 99 or security light problems are found in the column wires broken or the switch contacts that can be broken or dirty. A resistance check is the only way to know if the wires and contacts are good to go.
The BCM supplies the ignition switch contact with a regulated 5 volt signal to correctly produce the same voltage drop across the keys resistor pellet each time it is used. Did you know your vehicle UA6 has a shock sensor inside, on top of the drivers side wheel house. It detects movement from two directions and provides direct input to the BCM also that controls the security lamp also?
How much the bcm set up back? How much to get it programed to VIN?
Did you find a local shop with the capabilities or go to the dealer? Maybe a buddy that did it for you? Just curious, as a good friend I worked with at a dealer for 10 years still works at a dealer, but now works only on Cadillac's. The BCM can be programmed on the bench without the vehicle using a J vehicle interface module or VIM, but is best done at one time to go thru the Pass-Key re-learn.

The stock Opti works fine on a Megasquirt 3 in fully sequential mode using the high and low res signals, but both of the MSD versions do not work when the high res system is installed works in batch fire using low res signal, not sequential using high res.
If you know what the stock PCM looks for and why it works with all three optisparks please let me know so we can get these MSD's working. I have a spare opti unit that I use with a small electric motor to do my bench testing on the car very fast and easy to do it this way. If you know any other way to get this working feel free to let me know! I will most likely go that route if I can at least get this thing running, now knowing the code for the Opti isnt actually finished that makes sense that nobody is using it, I thought it was simply needing enabled.
Well I got my MS3 reading RPM with the opti, though all the settings are different than everything documented very bad MS3 documentation in my opinion as a new guyfor one tech support recommended following "how to megasquirt your chevy LT1 LT4 L99". Weird I know. Not sure what effect all the other settings have but RPM is steady using my electric motor.
My concern now is, in Batch fire mode, how does the MS know what side to fire and when? Is it truly random each and every time I start it, and is that ok?
I just want to get it running to I feel comfortable sinking even more money into crank and cam triggers. Definitely follow the megasquirt manual.
The Basics of LT1 Tuning
I think the aim was to get the opti code to fire sequential. James will probably have to tell us. I have an incomplete idea how batch mode works. But I don't think it matters which side fires fuel first. It would obviosly matter for sequential. This website is dedicated to helping you learn how to tune your own LT1 car computer PCMusing the popular and inexpensive TunerCat software as the model.

An idle relearn procedure must be performed if a computer, or chip, is replaced in the vehicle. An idle relearn procedure is a way to reprogram the vehicle's computer memory to idle at a specified RPM, or revolutions per minute. Without the programmed idle, the vehicle can run arbitrarily, resulting in unnecessary engine wear. Chevy uses a simple idle relearn process.
After you replace the computer chip, it will automatically reset itself when you turn the ignition key from the "on" position to the "off" position. Blue Streak Electronics recommends to warm the engine after the idle relearn procedure, without use of the air conditioner. After the engine is warm, switch the air conditioning on and off, and then put the transmission into the "drive" position. These actions complete the full idle relearn procedure.
It is imperative that a technician verifies that the car's battery is fully charged. If power fails during a relearn procedure, the technician must reprogram the computer chip.

For example, the PCM controls the engine, the transmission, the fuel system, and the speedometer. Recalls are another reason your PCM may need to be reprogrammed. Turn on your computer and plug the scan tool into it and your vehicle, using the pass-through cable. If your VIN number is incorrect, enter the correct one. If all of your calibrations are up-to-date, an error will appear indicating there is nothing to reprogram. If they are not up-to-date, a transfer window will open and the program will begin to download and reprogram your PCM with the calibrations you selected.

From what I've seen of the tunes posted, I think there are some things missing. From what I've logged, it only works So tune accordingly. Now we can. Thanks HPTuners! Tune your MAF. Its a good idea anyway. VE tables will vary. Look at the thread below and use the EOIT spreadsheet to calculate the right value for your cam.
My first stab I cut the Initial Adder table in half. Seems like a good start. Haven't changed it from the cut in half value. Working well. Use L31 van tables? I then plan to start with the express van knock tables. I bent my float when I installed the lph pump so mine has read strangely since before the swap I'm sure this list is far from complete, but if we put all our lists together in one place it should help all of us and those that follow.
Thanks, Jason. Last edited by JasonS; at PM. Reason: see changes in bold italics. Looking forward to Ben's input. As you drive, the engine computers are continuously working to learn about the way you drive your vehicle and will adjust the way other modules perform. Which enables your vehicle to run as efficiently as possible. Because your ECU learns about your driving habit constantly since it has the capacity to store tons of data including your trouble codes which is extremely useful information when diagnosing possible faults within your vehicle.
Analyzing this personal data and learning how to reset your ECM are both essential during this diagnostic phase. If your check engine light comes on then chances are there may be an internal electrical issue within your vehicle that must be addressed. Before replacing any parts you want to reset your ECM to ensure that part replacements are absolutely necessary. There are a few ways to reset your control modules.
One way is by disconnecting the battery cable for 2 to 3 minutes and waiting to see if the check engine light comes back on upon reconnecting the battery and start the car. Drive the car for at least 10 miles for the ecu to learn, if there is a problem with your vehicle then the check engine light will come back on and you can analyze the fault code that the ECM throws.
These codes will guide you towards the root of the problem and you can begin replacing parts to try to fix the issue. PS make sure you do not have any battery cable issues and have a backup power handy before you reset the ecu. Resetting your cars ecu can also be useful when modifications are done on the vehicle.
In this instance, you want to reset your engine control modules manually through the fuse box. The fuse box is located on the passenger side next to the battery. When your vehicle has properly warmed up then you want to turn your vehicle back off and unplug both fuses, cut power by disconnecting the battery.
After a few minutes all the old data should be reset so plug the fuses back in and turn your vehicle back on. Because the auto ECU is such a sensitive module, it is very important to reset the unit after modifications are installed or else the new modifications may conflict with the way the engine performed previously. Resetting your cars ecu, should not be a hassle at all as there are many more ways to reset your ECU and there are many more reasons for doing so.
Resetting your car computer will do no harm to your vehicle and should always be done when any replacements are installed like a fuel filter, knock sensor even you when after work on your car air conditioning or any diagnostics are performed.
Do not hesitate to check your repair manuals or the owners manual if you want to replace your vehicle ECM. The 2 most common ways to reset your car computer is by either unplugging the battery or by resetting the fuse related to the engine control module.
Disconnect the battery and Switch the ignition key to the on position for about 15 minutes should reset the ECU. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
